About the Central Denmark Region and the specialised social services
Who we are
The Central Denmark Region is one of five regions in Denmark, responsible for:
- Healthcare and psychiatry
- Specialised social services
- Regional development (climate, mobility, business etc.)
Our role in the social system
In Denmark, the municipalities are responsible for the provision of social interventions, but the regions deliver the most specialised social services that the municipalities are not geared to providing on their own.
These are the services needed by citizens with:
- Multiple and complex functional impairments
- Communication and sensory difficulties
- Mental disorders in combination with other issues
- A need for specialist expertise embedded at country or regional level
How we are organised
The Central Denmark Region is a politically governed organisation.
The social services department is headed by a Director of Social Services. Below are listed eight areas of specialised social services, each with its own management, field of specialisation and target group.
How we are financed
Primarily fee-based financing – this means that the municipalities pay for the services provided to their citizens. In addition, it is possible to apply for funding from special pools, supply services under tendered contracts and participate in externally funded development projects.
How we work together
- We collaborate with municipalities and government agencies that assess and determine citizens’ needs.
- We work closely with the region’s healthcare and psychiatric services.
- We participate in nationwide professional networks and development initiatives.
- We are involved in national/international projects and knowledge exchanges.
Our strategic focus areas
- Cohesive social services: Stronger collaboration and partnerships that contribute to high quality and more effective interventions.
- Whole-person care:Holistic interventions that involve families and networks in the development of interventions.
- Strongly professional services:Focus on skills development and attractive workplaces as the foundation for delivering highly specialised interventions.
What we offer internationally
- Participation in collaborative EU projects and development initiatives
- Study visits and peer learning
