Welcome to the Sustainability Strategy

In Central Denmark Region, we strive for a sustainable and healthy life. Sustainability means health for people and planet – now and in the future. Our way of delivering healthcare must make it possible to live healthy lives for us and for future generations.

The pressure on the planet is increasing with many crises happening at the same time. The pace of the sustainable transformation of the healthcare sector must be accelerated – and we can succeed if we act now.

Sustainability must contribute as a driving force in our transformation of the healthcare sector. We must further integrate sustainability into our daily operations, services, and investments. We do this by maintaining a sustainable focus on climate and environment, an attractive and socially responsible workplace, and through our approach to leadership and governance.

We take responsibility as a large organisation

The resilient healthcare system of the future goes hand in hand with sustainability. We know that sustainable solutions and choices help to ensure steady operations and supplies in the future. Therefore, the core of the strategy’s ambitions is climate, environment, and the planet’s boundaries. We are a large public organisation with more than 30,000 employees and a significant consumption of products and services – especially at our hospitals. Particularly in this area, we must act responsibly and lead the way by making wise choices and changing patterns of consumption.

But sustainability is not only about climate, environment, and economic priorities. We also want to be a socially responsible, diverse, and attractive workplace with a good working environment. At the same time, we take responsibility for being a good educational workplace for trainees and students and we contribute to ensuring that everybody can be part of a work community.

Sustainability as a natural value

Sustainability concerns everybody. The strategy must be further integrated into our decisions, investments, and operations. Fortunately, the region’s employees are both committed to and engaged in taking on this shared task. That brings hope.

We stand on the shoulders of pioneers who have contributed to sustainable development for many years. Now we strengthen our sustainability efforts through leadership, commitment, knowledge sharing, data, and more coordinated actions. We do this within the region and in collaboration with external partners.

Is must be easier and more natural to make sustainable choices We are curious about potential and value creation. This requires dialogue and boldness during the process, but we are ready to forge new paths to create change. We are on the right track – and together we accelerate the pace towards a sustainable future for everybody.
